Taranto Plant

Taranto plant, the biggest in Europe and one of the biggest in the world, is the core of ILVA production system, as it not only provides the national and international market with finished steel products, but also feeds the Company production system and, through this, the Engineering Industry at national level (automobiles, household appliances, pipelines, shipbuilding, etc.).

Taranto Works has such features that since its acquisition by Riva Group, the target has been its consolidation and new launch through an investment plan.

The qualities that have made Taranto Works a steelworks of worldwide importance may be summarized as follows:

  • its position by the coast, which makes possible to develop industrial and logistic facilities for raw material supply. Taranto Works has an independent operational management of 3 docks, where about 1300 ships berth every year, supplying about 20 million tons of raw materials per year, or loading 85% of finished products made by the production plants;
  • the ability to feed the following markets:
    • national market (mainly)
    • Mediterranean market
    • European market
    • global market, with efficacy and flexibility
  • The availability of qualified human resources, thanks to a long-time production tradition in the sector;
  • The flexibility of areas and resources for the requalification of facilities and plants according to market changes.
